How can my rubella infection be treated?

A positive IgG rubella indicates a past infection or a high titre due to immunisation and will remain positive. A positive IgM indicates a recent infection and is more important with regards to outcome of pregnancy. Your test may be positive from the past or due to recent MMR immunisation. Repeat titres at 4-6 weeks and a rise in titres by 4 fold from previous value are significant. Did you ever have fever with rash and joint pains? Don't worry or misinterpret your reports. Ask your obstetrician to check the reports for you.

What should be done to prevent recurrence of UTI?

Antibiotics taken after 12 weeks of pregnancy, in 98% cases do not cause any problem for the fetus. The recurring urinary infection requires that testing for diabetes be done. Recurring infection can be prevented by alternating alkalinizing agent as well as an acidifying agent to be given on alternate days so that the infection does not occur again along with plenty of oral fluids.

Does high TSH level affect pregnancy?

Hypothyroidism (high TSH) during conception and pregnancy should be treated. It has its effect on neurological development of the baby. High TSH itself is not an indication for termination of pregnancy but any problem if it has happened cannot be ruled out. Your wife should take Eltroxin 50 mcg daily and repeat serum T4 and TSH after 3 weeks and depending upon the levels, her dose can be adjusted. Eltroxin should be taken empty stomach. Anti TPO (Thyroid Peroxidase) antibodies can be done in your wife's blood sample to know the type of hypothyroidism. Usually it is due to dietary insufficiency and iodized salt should be taken.
